So while the printer quality rates a 4 star the built in obsolescence garners a two star for trashing the planet. We called Canon and they told us to dispose of the printer and buy a new one. No image on the LCD screen. You can still print from the computer and can make one copy of the item on the glass scanner plate but that is all. Excellent little printer (much better than Epson regarding the ink cartridge use).
There is probably something small wrong inside but it has to be tossed away, adding to the planet's garbage and waste. So now you cannot control any of the features. However, BEWARE. We have owned this printer for three years. Recently we came to work, turned it on and poof.
A local repair shop said they cannot get any parts from Canon, simply are not produced.
I have printed a lot fewer documents because of the constant jamming. no matter the quality of the paper3) With only 8 month use, it is printing off track (half of one letter is on top of another) and there is blank strip down the right side.4) I am guessing this happened when trying to clear a horrid jam recently5) If you are out of one of the 4 toner cartridges, you can't scan. However, I am not a heavy printer. I have been tempted to pitch it out the second story window on a weekly basis. Don't buy it. Huh. I work from home.
If anything, it will make you THINK PRIOR TO PRINTING. BTW, I would have given this a good review within 3 months of getting it. 1) This printer quality is horrid2) It regularly jams on ANY print job. 6) Toner is not readily available at Staples7) It is becoming landfill Extremely disappointed. JUST TO ELIMINATE STRESS IN YOUR LIFE.
I have a calibrated monitor and print from Adobe Elements 7. Black and gray scale is also more limited than what I perceive people get on very expensive photo printers.For routine work on a budget this printer does the job -- minimally acceptable for photos though a professional print/service will be better -- noticeably better.Of course, this is not at the high end in terms of cost so I give this printer an overall 3 for value. Generally, I noticed the prints to be a bit muddy or flat. Routine text is clear enough and the scanning utilities and device work well. When printing test files I noticed that the prints are not similar to what I see on the monitor.
So far, it has performed well for the basics. Photos. Most images are processed from a Nikon D90 camera. All the colors lack saturation in my estimation. I replaced a previous Canon printer that developed a leak and would have been difficult to clean up with this printer.
After about 90 days the LCD display went off but mostly it still functions. They are acceptable if you aren't too picky.
Paper jammed and wouldnt budge. Yanked off cover on back of printer and out came jammed paper. Only one problem so far with the Canon Pixma MP520 printer. Canon cust serv and manual were no help.
It is all you really need anyway, unless you are printing pictures. I researched a lot prior to buying this, and I am happy with it.I just wish it was wireless. The scanning function is really nice too. My wife and I are both in school, so it gets a lot of use. I especially love being able to replace each color cartridge individually.
I have never had any problems with it. It is great on ink, especially if you use the "fast draft" option. We have printed pictures up to 8x10 inches, and they look really good. I think it saves money and the environment. I have owned this printer for over a year now.
I have never had to replace the color ink cartridges, and only replaced the black one once so far. We have been able to archive a lot of family photos to the computer, then put them on a DVD slide show, and it has been wonderful for our family.
